it's time

George W. Bush must be held accountable.

From the illegal invasion of Iraq based on lies to the illegal wiretapping of American citizens to illegal detention and torture, the legal grounds for impeaching Bush are numerous and well-documented.

The purpose of this blog is simple: to see whether people would be interested in a national impeachment march on Washington and, if so, to begin discussing how to organize it. This would not be part of an antiwar march (as important as they are) or any other political demonstration. It would be a separate march dedicated uniquely to demanding Bush's impeachment. It would also be, as far as I know, historically unprecedented.

Signing petitions and writing our representatives is important, but nothing would send the message as strongly as a million people gathered in the capitol unequivocally demanding just one thing: the impeachment of George Bush.

Think this would be a good idea? If so, then please take five seconds to say you do in the comments below. We need a virtual show of hands to get this ball rolling.

UPDATE: I don't yet have a date in mind for the march, and welcome your suggestions. Also, due to the positive response so far I'm now in the process of creating a new and much better site. Please e-mail me at marchtoimpeach@gmail.com if you'd like to be notified when it goes live, or help out.

It is time. It would be way to easy to let the overwhelming mass of misdeeds silence us in shock and awe. Let's have our response be as unprecedented as his presidency. Let's let our voice be heard.

It's time indeed. We marched in the `60's to create change. We held up the gov't to scrutiny for all America to see. We forced change. Young folks should do it again. Yes. March. Get organized. Make a statement. Force congress to act.

its overdue - why have we been letting him get away with his actions for this long? We are free Americans!

So this bipartisan group gets together lead by Papa Bush's ol pal Baker and they come up with this report that says we have to work on getting the troops out and ending the occupation in Iraq and doing whacky things like talking with Iran and Syria...novel concept. Then we vote in a Democratic congress and senate with the idea that we get represented and build towards the end of the war. So what does that mentally retarded president of ours come up with? To send in more troops??? What an asshole, If we impeach him, he'd be getting off light and still get his library at SMU. But I think it should happen and I would support any actions taken towards that process. A march is loooong overdue. I will bring lots of bike riding anarchists but if there are more than 10 of us we will have to ask the NYPD for permission first...NOT!

Based on the legislation passed during Bush's first week in office, I shudder to think what another full year could bring... not to mention another broken election.

If a march on Washington gained positive coverage, I believe it would send a clear message to the entire Bush administration -- hold them responsible for leading our nation through these past seven years of disgrace.

Impeaching Bush is the only honorable thing to do. It may be the only thing we can do that will help quickly restore the rest of the world's faith in America again. We let Richard Nixon get away with lesser crimes. That's a precedent we can't afford to allow to continue.

Jacob, are you considering any particular dates for this yet?

I'm not voting for a candidate that doesn't support Bush's impeachment. This has to be done

I am appalled by what this scumbag and his cronies have gotten away with. Their first day in power was one day too many. Now, all these days later, it's truly as if we live in ZombieNation. Feels like each fresh newscast about their truly offensive and completely destructive methods of governing just wash over the american people. We turn our backs so it doesn't hit us in the face, but we can't do that anymore. This country is being destroyed by a group of self serving, power crazed imbeciles. It's time to get them OUT.

It is definitely time to march. Whare are the proposed dates? We have to get Bush *and* Cheney out of office. We need change.

I like the fact that it's historically unprecedented. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Congress had no intention of impeaching Nixon until the citizenry started demanding his head on a platter, right? (Nixon! How quaint! Those were the good old days...)

I like the fact that it is calling for ONE action by Congress, not a mish-mash of every complaint against this administration, though there are oh-so-many.

It's hard to believe it hasn't already been done actually - but if you were to pool the mailing lists of all those websites dedicated to ousting this fucker, you might get yourself a million people. The web is a plum resource, just waiting to be plucked. Move On? Are ya kidding me? Totally doable.

I'm in.

Yes. With Pelosi (who'd be president if impeachment went through) unwilling to consider this, at least in public, and with our illustrious members of Congress forced to do it by the book with hearings that present the evidence, let's do a grass roots demonstration.

The people need to speak up. The more of us the better, and the more visible the better. Count me in.

YES! it is time, we must stop this madman...it is time, more then time. Enough, enough.

More and more people are waking up to this as well.

Long past time. I'll be very glad to show up for a march. It needs to be in Washington, DC, though, for it to have impact on Congress.

Much as we need to get rid of Bush and Cheney (or CheneyBush) it is about so much more now. A clear statement has to be made by the people of this country that we will not tolerate another president (Nixon, Reagan with IranContra and CheneyBush) subverting the Constitution and getting away with it. By far the worst offender is CheneyBush, with Bush's signing statements, spying et al. We need to shout it out that we are a nation of laws that EVERYONE needs to obey, first and foremost the president. If we let Bush get away with this (secret arrests, dropping Habeus Corpus), what will the next president try? It freezes my soul to think of it. Too many patriots died to bring this country into existence, the least we can to is march to save it.

Jacob, this is a great idea and deserves to be well organized. I'm sure that you could get the support and alignment of some big networks out there, Move On, Michael Moore etc.

Although it is so timely now on the eve of Bush's so called 'surge stategy' it will take time to get it properly done and you should wait till the weathe is more friendly.

This could truly be the Million Person March that actually hits the target.

Don't let up, bro. This is where the rubber really meets the road and Pelosi et all will have to change thier tune if we can bring off a protest of that size.

If we could get a million to DC and major sympathy groups in every major city in America that would bea message so loud it could no longer be ignored or stalled in argument.

The people spoke in Nov. but the pols have yet to listen. I think you're right; we have to reiterate the message.
